Unveiling the Play Pedagogy Award Pilot: Embracing Play Across Scotland

Exciting news ahead for Play Pedagogy in Scotland!

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our Play Pedagogy Award pilot, a significant step towards embedding play-based learning in educational practices across Scotland. Joining us on this adventure are ten schools spanning the length and breadth of Scotland, from Shetland in the north to the Scottish Borders in the south. Each school brings its own unique identity, reflecting the rich diversity of education across Scotland.

Our mission with this pilot is clear: to explore the power of play-based learning and its impact on educational outcomes for all children. With schools at various stages of their play pedagogy journey, we’re set to gain valuable insights into how play evolves as children progress through their school journey.

We’re particularly excited about the diverse mix of our participating schools with each one offering a different context for exploring play pedagogy, ranging from small rural schools to larger urban schools with specialised additional support needs units, and we’re especially proud to include a school catering to additional support needs, underscoring our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in education.

We view our pilot as a fantastic opportunity to thoroughly test our resources and our handbook, written in collaboration with Education Scotland, fine-tuning them based on the invaluable feedback and insights provided by our experienced and knowledgeable participants. This process ensures that before offering them to a wider educational audience across Scotland, we’ve honed our materials to fit the needs of pupils, educators, and the wider school community.

Through the sharing of inspiring case studies, our aim is to highlight the benefits of adopting a play pedagogy approach and by highlighting real-life successes, we hope to inspire educators across Scotland to embrace play as a powerful tool for learning, development, and wellbeing.

While the pilot phase is just the beginning, its potential impact is significant. Our goal is to roll out the Play Pedagogy Award nationwide later this year, driving positive change in educational practices across Scotland.  We hope that you will join us on our journey to champion the role of play in education and work towards unlocking the full potential of every learner. Together, let’s make learning not only effective but also engaging and enjoyable.
