Play Scotland want to celebrate playwork as a profession. We want to highlight its significance in promoting children’s development, wellbeing, and the importance of play. That is why we are launching our latest social media campaign to get Playworker and Playwork added to the Cambridge dictionary, and we need your help to talk about A Day in the Life of a Playworker.
The way words are considered for inclusion in dictionaries is through usage. That means, if we want playwork and playworker to be added to the dictionary we have to use them online and in print.
That is why we are asking you to write a blog about a Day in the Life of a Playworker and then send it to us. We will then publish it here on our blog!

Playworkers around the world who are passionate about playwork!
What we are looking for
A blog of 500 – 1,000 words about the Day in the Life of a Playworker
The blog could cover:
- Who you are: how did you get into playwork and how long have you been doing it?
- What you did that day at work: from morning to night at your setting, what did you get up to? What went well? What was new or different?
- What challenges are facing playworkers at the moment and how are you working to overcome them?
- Why playwork and playworkers are important: what is playwork to you? why is play important to you? What is the benefit of playworkers for the children you work with?

- Where you work
- The blog itself (as an attachment or just copied into the email)
- And any photos you would like us to use. Please ensure you have proper permissions for any photos as they will be shared on our website and social media.
